If I don’t have protein bites in the freezer, I feel lost. They are the perfect grab and go snack or ‘treat’ for after dinner. I am always playing around with protein bite recipes, so here is my latest creation:

  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 Tbsp coconut flour
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 water

Put all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix! Form them into little balls and place in the freezer on a tray that has already be lined with parchment paper. When ready to eat, take them out of the freezer and wait 5 minutes until they get a little gewy! Yumm! Enjoy!

It’s about balance . . .

Having healthy snacks in the house at ALL times is important. Creating a home environment where there are no ‘temptations’ sets you up for healthy eating patterns. Sure, we can have treats every now and then, but having bags full of chips and chocolates is just plain mean (to our minds!). ¬†Here are three tricks that can help to set yourself for eating while at the home:

1. PRE CUT/WASHED FRUITS AND VEGGIES: The kids may be more likely to reach for cucumbers that have already been washed or carrots that are pre-cut. Make these foods easily accessible for you and your family!

2. LEAVE FRUIT AND NUTS ON THE COUNTER: When you first go into the kitchen, why not be tempted by healthy snacks such as an apple or some almonds? Leave these in a dish/bowl on the counter.

3. LEAVE TEMPTATION BEHIND: If you know foods are going to lead to feelings of regret after eating them, don’t bring them into your home.
